As Joseph stumbled to the door he knew it would not be long until the coven found him. He tried not to think of what they would do to him, but he had seen it done too many times to be able to push the vivid images of the blood splattered windows out of his mind. The flashes of the gruesome deaths kept popping into his head. He could clearly see the blood dripping from their cold dead hands in to a sea of red, like spilled strawberry jelly underneath their hung, almost doll looking, bodies. Joseph could not help flinching at the thought of the screaming victims, still echoing in his skull. A shiver ran along his spine and he was jolted back to reality, he suddenly heard a scream that came from an alleyway not far to his right. He sped up, when he got to the opening of the alley; he saw that it was a young girl no more than 20, she had beautiful thick brown hair dripping down her face, and her eyes were pools of melted chocolate in seas of white. She was short and had owl rim glasses, which now lay broken in a pool of water by her feet. She screamed again as the circle of men around her tightened, this time louder and more desperate than before. The men were hooting and cheering and making foul and vulgar gestures, it made Joseph sick. He could have easily overpowered the men; he had more strength in him than they in their bodies combined. But he had more pressing matters to deal with, he was not to be troubled by a foolish mortal girls problems. As he turned to leave a flash of blue light caught the corner of his eye. It was a very old silver necklace that hung loosely around the girl’s neck with extraordinary symbols that were only too familiar to Joseph. He took a step closer just to make sure, suddenly the necklace glowed sapphire blue, as though it recognized Joseph and was calling to him. The girl gave a surprised yelp and the men looked at each other hesitantly with confused expressions. Joseph was shocked, how had a simple human girl gotten a hold of such a powerful object. He could easily take it from her; this would be the thing to save him from the coven. A shiver went down his back again, this time of excitement, he gave a smirked and stalked towards the men; the men were on the ground before they knew what hit them. He stooped over their bodies for a moment; he then slowly turned his attention towards the still frightened girl. He could feel the power of the necklace pulsating from the girl’s neck, beckoning him towards it as though teasing him! He stepped towards the girl, maybe a little too eagerly than he meant. She yelped and squeezed herself more tightly against the wall. He took a deep breath and as calmly as he could he said: “Don’t worry I won’t hurt you.” He offered her his hand, as he did, he caught a glimpse of his reflection in the pool of water by the girl’s feet. No wonder the girl was reluctant; he had his teeth bare and looked like he was ready to pounce on her. He took his hand back and rearranged his figure and offered the girl his hand one more time. He could see that she was still terrified yet grateful for his help. Though she was still a little hesitant she took his hand. The moment their skins came into contact, the light from the necklace went to a pure dazzling white and bleached the nearby neighbor hoods for an instant. When the black of the night had been restored, Joseph lay at the girl’s feet; his eyes lifeless and black, staring into the dark night of Dacia.
